With plain coloured clothes you can’t go far wrong, but it’s time to add some spice with stripes
There is always one pattern kicking around the fashion world, one that brings life to outfits whichever way they are worn. Now it’s time for stripes to do exactly that - stripes are back in a big way and not just as your simple stripe top. They're popping up on every genre of clothes and it’s time to look at some of the best available.
First it’s the tunic which has been taken over, they have been all the rage of a while now and New Look brings us a gorgeous stripe tunic at £16, the subtle colours work well together to compliment the harsh lines of the stripes. The stretch material allows this outfit to fit perfectly and would look great with a pair of leggings or brightly coloured tights.
ASOS has an updated version of the simple stripped top with the Reiss Skye stripe jumper, £85. These contrasting colours really allow the stripe detailing to stand out, but not only that but it also incorporates the structured shoulders craze which is around at the moment. ASOS have also surprised us with the mix of shoes and stripes which are rarely a good combination; however these Fashionistas Greenwich zip detail platform slingback, £180, combine the two perfectly.
Sometimes the influence of stripes in an outfit only needs to be minimal, BooHoo highlights this flawlessly with their striped top and bow front jersey dress. The added detail turns a simple black dress into an eye-catching outfit, which would look great with high heels for an evening out or with the addition of tights and dolly shoes for the perfect daytime outfit, and at only £12 it is going to fly off the virtual shelves.
The common stripe does not only style itself around everyday wear, evening wear and shoes but also smart work style outfits as well. River Island show us how to really style our new work outfits, with the ¾ sleeve shirt (£29.99) with a fabulous mixture of horizontal and vertical stripes.
Lastly Topshop highlights how well the stripe can emphasize our accessories with these Sheer stripe tights, £8. The subtle vertical stripes are brilliant for elongating the leg, making them perfect for the petite lady.
Stripes may seem a bit loud and scary at first; however there are plenty of ways for them to be styled, so don’t forget to add a striped item to your wardrobe.
