Check out our verdict on the biggest tracks out this week

JLS – Everybody In Love
I did not know that JLS stood for 'Jack The Lad Swing'. I'm shocked - since when did acronomic boyband names actually stand for anything? Did N*SYNC actually stand for No Sir, You're Not Credible? As for the song, from what I can gather there's very little these guys can do wrong; it's a bit formulaic, Rn'B-lite, un-threatening pop from some nice guys. World continues to turn, I suppose.

Calvin Harris – Flash Back
I've known this single was due out this week for the past month. Calvin told me directly. Repeatedly. He even told me I could pre-order from iTunes (or 7 digital), despite the fact that opening my iTunes slows my computer considerable and linking directly to the iTunes store REALLY pisses me off. It's no I'm Not Alone, in fact, it's not that good at all. It's a flashback to the late 90's Robert Miles euro-dance that really isn't due a revival - at least not until May 2011.

Beyonce – Broken Hearted Girl
When did Beyonce stop churning out banging floor-fillers and instead focus just on the introspective ballads? For every Single Ladies, there seems to be about five Broken Hearted Girls and this is a silly ratio. Isn't she happily married now? If this is the result then come on Jay-Z - do us all a favour and doink that Rihanna girl. At least then we'll get some decent tunes off your missus.

Daniel Merriweather feat Adele – Water And A Flame
The best description I've ever heard of Adele was that she sounds like she's got far too many teeth in her head. I can only imagine the best description of Daniel Merriweather would be Mark Ronson's black-sounding mate. This song is poor, really poor, and both these artists are distinctly average. Talented they may be, but (and I'm loathe to use the phrase) do they have 'it'? I'm yet to see any evidence to suggest they do.

Jay-Z feat Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind
This was easily one of the stand out tracks on Jay-Z's Blueprint 3, and it's pretty easy to see why. It's an anthem - Alicia Keys gives it plenty of welly and it's a lot more accessible to the masses than Jay rapping about the more cliche'd aspects of 'the game'. It does beg the question though, since his last single, the No.1 hit Run This Town, followed a very similar formula, will this be as successful? Check out the video below.
