Be a shade braver this autumn!

The hot look for A/W 09 is having a pout with attitude, so this means saying goodbye to shiny wet look lips. Lipstick is a beauty weapon that is often cast aside in favour of lipgloss, but now it's time to throw your gloss to one side and arm yourself with matt shades of lipstick. We all know the benefits of using gloss - it's quick and easy, and okay you don't have to worry about it lip lines bleeding or staining your teeth - but lipstick is undoubtably a more sophisticated way of dressing up your lips.

The trends we are seeing at the moment call for bright fuchsias, seductive reds and cherry plums. Gorgeous in theory, but wearing bright shades can make your teeth look yellow, to avoid this try lipsticks with a bluish undertone. With this in mind we have found some of the sexiest and wearable shades in the world of beauty.

The uber glamerous 40's look is a trend that we are more than happy to embrace, think screen siren. A great way to get you started is Besame Voluptuous lip kit, it comes with the lipstick, a matching twist up lipliner and lip brush for £25. The benefit of getting this set is that of course the shades match perfectly, and it also makes a lovely gift.

Another great shade of red is Urban Decay The Iconic Lipstick's Revolution (left). Not only does it look great, but it also nourishes and stimulates lips and is fairly reasonable at £12. It has to be said that the packaging is pretty cool too. Not that we would buy a product because it looks like the potion in Death Becomes Her...

Moving on to funkier shades, if you want a hint of neon try Illamasqua Dystopia Collection Lipstick for £14. It promises to provide an all-night pout. Benefit Full-Finish Lipstick in Flirt Alert is another great bold shade for £13.

For a plummy look try Liparazzi Lipstick in the shade A Lister for the very small price of £5. The creamy texture smoothes your lips and helps to stop chapping and dryness. Giving you a very kissable mouth.  Going back up the price ladder Clinique Long Last Lipstick has big claims that it wont feather, creep, stain or dry out. For £14 hours of great coverage seems worth it.
