It’s time to stop struggling to get into skinny jeans and hop into some jeggings instead
We all remember the crazy leggings of the 80’s when they were perfect for fitness and gym-sessions as well as being worn throughout the 90’s with skirts and dresses. We have recently seen their successful comeback throughout the past few winters, and it is only right that they are adapted and changed to fit the new century.
This is where we see the invention of ‘jeggings’ a perfect mix of leggings and jeans hence the imaginative name. They are leggings which take on the detailing of jeans, the side stitching, pocket detail and colour, though they fail to include the impossibility of getting into them, which is a huge bonus!
First off we have some biker knitted jeggings from TopShop (pictured left), these are probably my favourite although they are the most expensive at £45. They feature a fabulous panelling effect (perfect for making shorter legs look longer) as well as having all the detailing of normal jeans, even including belt loops. These would look perfect with any tunic or dress and if you want to complete the biker look why not through in a leather jacket and boots.
Dorothy Perkins provides us with some great indigo jeggings, £22, a brilliant vibrant colour to brighten up the winter days. These jeggings have all the basic features of jeans with a vivid yellow stitching to contrast with the indigo material available to be dressed down during the day or up for a night out.
If you are in favour of the lighter coloured jeans then ASOS’s Kate Acid Wash Knitted Jeggings, £30 would be perfect. At a distance they exactly like real skinny jeans (even including a zip fly fastening) and team up brilliant with high heels due to their smart style similar to skinny jeans.
Spoilt for choice in New Look, the Acid Wash jeggings, £18 stood out from the rest in a casual faded grey colour and matching stitch detail leaving them suitable for any outfit. However for some jeggings with a bit of a different style they also offer these Cuff Hem Jeggings at the same price. With the influence of the Harem trousers these stand out as the most unique of the jeggings seen so far.
Lastly and more importantly the cheapest all of the jeggings are from GettheLabel.com, Only Cool Jeggings at £9.99. With all the original features of jeans and made in a stretch denim material making them look smart and would look great with the most highest of heels.
No matter how many pairs of leggings you already own, there is always an excuse for one more pair, jeggings are the perfect excuse.
