Check out our verdict on the biggest tracks out this week

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy
Now the illusion of any kind of cool has been removed from La Roux since singer Ellie Jackson has been doing interviews ('annoying posh prat' is being generous) so the tracks really need to stand out. I'm Not Your Toy is no Bulletproof; the sound is still there but the hooks are not catchy enough and have a much less obvious retro feel. The damage is really done when you actually start listening to the lyrics and realise exactly how far La Roux are from their self-quoted comparisons such as Eurythmics and The Human League.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Magnet
Bombay Bicycle Club have got the formula nailed. Their brand of post-rock infused indie always goes down well and Magnet is no different, this time with more attention to arrangement here, going off on a couple of interesting little tangents and hooks galore (you can't knock that guitar line). It's just a shame the vocalist doesn't have his own voice; the obvious rip-off fusing Interpol's Paul Banks with Devendra Banhart really spoils it.

Kid Cudi feat Kanye West & Common - Make Her Say
With guests like Kanye West and Common, you could expect some proper backpacker style hip hop, or at least an old school funk break and some kind of soul vocal sample - and Make Her Say delivers. Unfortunately that is all it delivers, with a minimal little piano line being the only addition to the above. The soul vocal is some lady singing Poker Face the whole way through - talk about jumping on someone else's back! I understand it's all about the narrative but Make Her Say just seems lazy.

The Holloways - Jukebox Sunshine
The Holloways are back, after rumours of a split and a little line-up change (namely the guy who wrote their only tune anyone remembers - Generator - leaving). The sound isn't that different though - it's still jangly indie-pop but there is however a distinct lack of finesse. Jukebox Sunshine is throwaway, a little bit out of date and has none of those classic reggae-tinged little post-Libertines guitar lines that The Holloways used to do so well.

Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man
Mumford & Sons are surely about to get the success they deserve. They take the whole folk, singer-songwriter thing that has been so fashionable in recent years and take it to the next level. With perfect arrangement and momentum, Little Lion Man satisfies very nicely - but it's when you listen through the cracks and realise that there is loads going on in the production that they become something markedly more special than your average London folky chaps. Watch the video below - and my, are they a handsome bunch of lads!
