The party season is almost upon us - but can we afford it?

Affording all of these lavish dos as well as the stunning frocks to wear to them can be a bit tricky. It’s lucky then that we’ve put together the best party dresses for under £40.

We’re certainly spoilt for choice this season when it comes to picking the perfect party dress - you’ve got puffball hems, pussy bow necks, cute prom dresses, figure hugging vest dresses, tiered skirts, dresses with lace, dresses with tassels – it’s hard to know where to start.

But the good news is there is definitely something for everyone – and within budget too.

Dresses with nipped in waists are a perfect choice for party wear this season. This one for £30 from New Look ticks all of the right boxes – lace, bandeau, prom dress. Get yours here.

But if you fancy something a little different, why not try this corsage dress from Lipsy at just £35 here.

This dress from frockonline.co.uk screams seasonal sophistication – and will a high neck and ¾ sleeves it will go some way to keeping you warm in the long queue for the taxi. It is bang on budget at £40 here.

This dress from Oli brings some true retro glamour. It is super cute and at £32 is right on price too here.

Nothing says 80s retro chic more than a tiered skirt like this bandeau dress, £38 from ASOS.com here.

One shoulder dresses have seen a return to popularity. This one for £35 from motelrocks.com is a great bargain buy and is an ideal little black dress here. But if you don't fancy going for a little black number why not go for a statement colour like this orange one, £39.99 from Oasis here.

So it’s time to grab our glad rags and look truly fabulous at your sophisticated soiree or drunken pub crawl – whichever the case may be.
