Jewel robbers, Burmese protesters and baby elephants in this week's round up

Brass balls are the order of they day this week, with the respect to the perpetrators of Britain’ second biggest robbery. The brazen duo walked into Graff Jewellers in New Bond Street, London before they unleashed their firearms and stuffed forty million quid's worth of gear into bulging swag bags.

Not the subtlest of plans I give you, but you got to admit they’ve got stones bigger than a druid based in Salisbury. The funniest coverage award for this particular story goes to the BBC website for their alleged amateur video of the raid.

The frenetic notes of the drama are captured for sure, but cut the sound and the clip turns into some kind of bizarre David Lynch film about pavements. Not so much a video of the raid, but a video of a bystander shitting himself and running away from a raid. Great stuff.

In another feat of feistiness further afield, an embattled Nobel Peace laureate stood her ground this week. The ruling military junta in Burma has sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi, left, to a further 18 months of house arrest in an ongoing saga to stifle Myanmar’s hopes of achieving a democratic society. The decision has provoked worldwide condemnation.

It’s a David and Goliath struggle that’s going to take a lot of time, and more than a slingshot to disappear. Lets hope they have more luck than the town of Machynlleth, who are fighting to stop Tesco building a superstore in their hometown.

And finally…

STA travel have been forced to fire the hapless employee who risk assessed James Corden’s elephant ride through Ravong Province.
