Band of the Week: Pyramiddd

This ace 'new' band who used to come with a Parental Guidence sticker
Holy Fuck, Selfish Cunt, Fucked Up, the Fuck Buttons....all bands that are unlikely to ever appear on daytime radio, and even less likely to appear on Jo Wiley's Changing Tracks. See, it may seem like a good idea at the time, but bands with swear words in their name very rarely go on to sell out arenas and sell millions of records. Pyramiddd used be know as Starfuckerss, but after a name change, they might well go on to do just that.
Formed in 2007, Pyramiddd make lo-fi guitar pop, full of beeps and whistles, detuned radios and floaty vocals, on occasion morphing into a cocophany of twirls and toy-like noise. Their songs are heavily layered, making listening to them a new adventure every time, each listen unveiling a new wonder, yet (as is often the case with this type of band) the songs maintain their structure, and it makes listening to each track a pleasure - and a challenge. Listen to Boy Toy; it's like peeling a wonderful aural multi-instrumental onion.
Listening to this band, you can't help but get the impression that there is so many ideas just waiting to get put to wax. If anyone watched The Wire (you should it's AMAZZZZIIIINNNNGGGG), Mr. Prezboluski made learning fun. The former Starfuckerss do the exact same.
Check Pyramiddd out at www.myspace.com/starfuckerss and playing live around London next week.
