Naughty News: Sex is No Joke in Saudi Arabia

Be thankful you're not a Saudi woman when it comes to sex...

In the UK we have it pretty easy  when it comes to sex - men and women face little recrimination for sleeping with whoever they want as long as they are safe. In Saudi Arabia, this is far from the case - not only because the Kingdom and culture will do all it can to considerably curtail your sexual freedom but also because even talking about sex can have serious repercussions.

Rozanna al-Yami, 22, is a Saudi journalist who made a film about the sexual taboo in the Arab world, where extra-marital sex is considered highly abhorrent. Having sex outside of marriage is punished harshly, but so is even speaking about sex. The Saudi king, King Abdullah, has stepped in to prevent al-Yami being receiving 60 lashes for making the show for Lebanese channel LBC featuring Saudi men bragging about how they have sex.

But at least sexual inequality doesn't apply here; the men in question have each received two years in prison, plus lashes, and other members of the LBC crew are going on trial. Just goes to show that free speech and sexual liberation can't be separated, and makes us realise how lucky we are here.
