This week the office gets emotional - but luckily our writer doesn't!

I'm not exactly a steely-eyed ballbreaker, but I can't stand it when people cry in the office. I suppose the current redundancies are not exactly something to celebrate, but they really seem to be turning everyone into jibbering wrecks, even if they aren't on the evil CEO's 'dead list'.

Yesterday, a girl in accounts started off the teary-eyed festivities with a break-up call from her boyfriend. Then all morning today the camp-as-Girls Aloud marketing assistant was weepy over an episode of ER, and my boss finished it off by storming out over a row about expenses… Seriously, has the world gone emotion-mad?

I thought the best way to get ahead was to adopt a personality-less nonchalance to everything, and accept that the big man upstairs (evil CEO again) had bigger plans for us all.

Still, it makes for some entertainment. We've given up the 'redundancy sweepstake' and have taken up the 'drama queen lottery'. This cruel game has lead to some winding up of our lesser-backboned colleagues, but still, you have to do something when you're not on Facebook…
